We are currently accepting applicants for the
2024 - 2025 BYM Pastoral Counselor Formation Program
Deadline to apply is April 15, 2024.
Requirements to Apply
- Cover letter answering the three questions, “Why you feel called to be a pastoral counselor?” and “How you see yourself serving as a pastoral counselor?” (BYM, Church setting, jail setting, etc.), and “How your life prepared you to help others heal from psychological, emotional, and spiritual suffering.”
- Resume (informal is fine) that includes educational background, including continuing education and pertinent life or work experience will help prepare you to be a pastoral counselor.
- Spiritual Biography (3 – 6 pages double-spaced) that tells us how God has worked in your life and any healing you have experienced by God’s grace. No special format. Pray about it and then do your best to articulate it.
- Two letters of character reference.
Formation Program
Sessions will start May 4, 2024 at The Hub, 2431 E. Hwy 501, Conway, SC, with a zoom option (or recording) and Canvas LMS. An internship of 200 hours with 100 face-to-face contact hours and 25 hours with supervisor for consultation, and the other 75 hundred hours can be used for research, gaining knowledge, experience, administrative, etc. There will be a minimum of 60 contact hours of learning activities. The goal and development of the program will be in accordance with minimum requirements to be a Board-Certified Pastoral Counselor with the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) Click Here. Continuing education will be required as well according to the AACC. The cost will be $1,200.00 for the program plus books ($250.00 - $450.00), and professional liability insurance (around $150 per year).

The program will be conducted in English, but Spanish-speakers who understand some English are encouraged to participate. All assignments and questions can be managed in Spanish, as well as written translations provided and practical training in your native language of English or Spanish. Instructor is fully bilingual in English and Spanish.

Course Overview
Join us for the formation program of pastoral counselors. Classes held at Be Your Miracle, 2431 E. Hwy 501, Conway, SC Application Deadline is April 15, 2024.
Attend Sixteen 3–3.5 hour modules on two Saturdays a month from May 2024 to January 2025 and complete an internship.
Potential to become a certified BYM Pastoral Counselor working with a growing nonprofit organization dedicated to offering affordable pastoral counseling and spiritual direction in this area.
This pastoral counseling formation program is designed to help our mission come to fruition. After completion of the program, you will be a BYM Pastoral Counselor and eligible to apply for board certification with the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC/IBCC), the premiere certification organization for Christian counselors in the United States. You will be required to adhere to the Ethical code of the AACC. Your will be able to practice and serve in South Carolina with our organization, but also in whatever area of ministry God calls you to. It may be merely to help you serve God’s children better in your ministry area in which you are already serving.

Module 2 Opening into God’s grace/removing blocks to receiving God’s grace – Counselor and Client
Module 3 Basic listening and attending
Module 4 Solution-focused counseling model
Module 5 Building the Toolbox – The cr
Module 6 CBT, supportive or person-Centered therapy, and spiritual direction – Integration of psychology, spirituality, and theology
Module 7 Suicidality/Self Harm Prevention and Dos and Don’ts as a counselor for high risk and in general
Module 8 Anxiety, Social Anxiety, Depression, Catastrophic Thinking
Module 9 Crisis and Trauma, PTSD and Complex Trauma
Module 10 Couples therapy and Grief counseling
Module 11 Addictions
Module 12 Ethics Code - Documentation
Students may begin Internships if opting to do so.
